End of Life Care training is “Essential to Role” for our clinical staff at University Hospitals Derby & Burton Foundation Trust. However evaluation of learning can be difficult to capture.
The trigger for wards to apply to be assessed for accreditation is by reaching the targets set by the Trust.
The Accreditation assessment consists of 40 measures which must be achieved by the ward staff.
Alongside the set measures the ward are invited to showcase any initiatives they have introduced to enhance the care they deliver to their patients at the end of their lives.
The programme is now in its 2nd year and to date 6 wards have successfully achieved the award. These wards are part of a range of specialities: Care of the Elderly, Oncology, Specialist Palliative Care and Cardiology.
