Complete with a Punch and Judy, windbreaks, beach balls and buckets and spades, the ward transformed into a sunny beach.
Everyone wore a knotted hanky and played in the sand, had an ice-cream and joined in beach related songs.
And no trip to the beach is complete without a donkey and Bransby Donkey Sanctuary very kindly brought along 2 friendly donkeys for patients to say hello to and pet.
Everyone had a fantastic time and it was an opportunity for patients and their care givers to reminisce about trips to the beach, holidays with family and recall wonderful childhood memories.
This day was part of a wider project where staff are utilising a sensory approach with themed sessions to enhance interaction and communication, increase stimulation and reduce behaviours that challenge for people with severe dementia.
