D33 Keeping it Cool

Problem imageThere was only one fridge for all baby food, baby milk and nutritional supplements and no fridge for patients’ own food. Impact Baby feeds must be in the fridge leaving no room for anything else.

Supplements should be kept in the fridge - they are a nutritional necessity and need to be cooled to be more palatable for the patient and ensure they are fully nourished.

This is particularly important for Cystic Fibrosis patients who need around 4000 calories a day and gastro patients who can’t have solid foods for 6 weeks. Idea To invest in a new fridge so there is room for nutritional supplements and patients’ food as well as baby feeds. Benefit Now there’s room for supplements in the fridge meaning they taste better and patients are more likely to drink them.

This has huge nutritional benefits for patients.

There’s also space for patients’ own food and a freezer section for ice-cream. Sarah Orourke, Junior Sister, D33.
