Community Integrated Care, a national social care charity, were recognised at this year’s FAB NHS Awards for their collaborative event ‘The Activity Academy’.
The innovative training event was held in collaboration with NHS Halton CCG, Halton Borough Council, The University of the West of England and the Super League team, Widnes Vikings. It was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part of the ‘Dementia Connect’ programme.
‘The Activity Academy’ also featured contributions from other organisations including, Skills for Care, Live Music Now, House of Memories, Open Eye Gallery, Norton Priory, and the acclaimed poet – Terry Caffery.
The event aimed to develop a new model for training frontline carers in how to utilise creativity and person-centred approaches to improve the lives of people living with dementia. “We are proud to see this innovative event win the ‘Penguin Award’, which celebrates collaboration between teams or organisations who come together to overcome a challenge” says Mark Adams, CEO at Community Integrated Care.
The award hosts noted that the event showcased how multiple organisations can work together to achieve exceptional outcomes. Feedback from the event, which took place in December last year, indicated that 100% of attendees were inspired to deliver new approaches to promoting activity. The post-event analysis also demonstrated impressive results in that all surveyed participating services went on to enhance the support they deliver.
Martin McGuigan, Director of Quality and Innovation at Community Integrated Care, commented on the award success, “To see this event recognised national is absolutely incredible. We’re thrilled to win this award celebrating our incredible partnership with a whole host of organisations and highlighting the exceptional work we are doing to identify new ways to enhance our sector.”
