Cocoon: a safe haven for patients at risk of falling #JustDoIt

Problem Some of our severely ill patients, including patients with severe head injuries, who are at higher risk of falls need additional protection to keep them safe.

Impact There is a potentially increased risk of falls for some of our most at risk patients. We were also aware of new equipment that would make it easier for staff to assist patients jeopardising the safety of both staff and patients.

Idea To invest in new, up-to-date moving and handling aids called ‘Sara Stedy’ and a safe ‘Cocoon’ bed to increase the safety of patients and reduce the risk of falls.

Benefits Risk of falling has been reduced and patients are more comfortable in the new set up. The new stability aid has reduced the risk of injury to staff and patients by minimising manual handling. The Sara Stedy is better for patient dignity and the cocoon bed is more comfortable for patients
