Change: What’s the point?

Change: What’s the point? featured image
NHS Change Day started in 2013 and on October 19th Change Day is changing and becoming #FabChangeDay! http://fabnhsstuff.net/fabchangeday/ Perpetuating the idea that change, not matter how small, can be achieved by every person within an organisation and this can lead to huge improvements in the care we deliver and improve the lives of the people we care for.  Proving that one  simple act, no matter how small can result in large-scale improvement.

But why should we change? Why do we need to change the way we work and the way we deliver care especially when we are so busy just getting through our day?

The Five Year Forward View (2014) https://www.england.nhs.uk/storage/5yfv-web.pdf sets out the case for change quite succinctly by stating, “Our values haven’t changed, but our world has. So the NHS needs to adapt to take advantage of the opportunities that science and technology offer patients, carers and those who serve them. But it also needs to evolve to meet new challenges: we live longer, with complex health issues, sometimes of our own making.”

However we all know that change can be hard and achieving sustained change even more so.  Change can take time and hard work which is why #FabChangeDay is just the start.  #FabChangeDay is a day to launch a year of ideas into action.  “We” have teamed up with The Academy Of Fabulous NHS Stuff and #FabChangeDay to help support and share change over the next year. (Read more HERE http://www.wecommunities.org/blogs/2217 ) This will be the first in a series of #FabChangeDay discussions exploring change. Some of the questions we will be addressing are:
  • Why is change so important?
  • How do we make change happen?
  • What can help us to make change happen?
  • How do we measure the impact of our changes?
  • Where do we start?
Whether you are a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, midwife, pharmacist, carer, patient, service user, citizen, manager or, in fact, anything else .. everyone is welcome, so please join us to discuss change in the lead up to #FabChangeDay.
