St. Mary’s Hospital, located in Kitchener Ontario is seeing the benefits of partnering with Oculys Health Informatics as their Patient Length of Stay numbers decrease.

Today, throughout the hospital, you will see hospital staff relying on the Oculys Performance Solution as they strive to find operational efficiencies to reduce their patients length of stay.

The Oculys Performance solution provides real-time data and connects teams and their leaders with important operational information in real-time.

“Ultimately this has helped reduce the length of stay so patients are able to get home sooner. This not only makes the discharged patient happier it also frees up the inpatient bed sooner for the next patient waiting in the emergency department,” says Don Shilton, President of St. Mary’s General Hospital.

The solution that Oculys provides is now implemented at a number of Canadian hospitals where similar results are being seen very quickly after implementation.

One such hospital, Markham Stouffville, has already reported a 29% decrease in time to inpatient bed for their patients. Elizabeth Price, Manager of Access and Flow at MHS, states that the implementation of the solution has “entrenched a proactive pull instead of push mentality” when it comes to patient flow at MSH. “There is no reason to rely on white boards and phone calls to manage patient flow today”

Franck Hivert of Oculys states; “Teams need real-time information throughout the day based on the complexity of the job that they are in”

The Oculys team specializes in connecting feeds of data from a hospitals’ existing HIS solution and internal platforms. It is through the use of a number of algorithms that have been developed in conjunction with the University of Waterloo that they convert that data into real-time management tools.

This use of big data and the development of the algorithms that drive their solutions is something that many industries have been moving towards.

The benefits for Healthcare have long been anticipated, and now Oculys and their partners are proving that the time is now.
