The GMC’s annual doctors in training survey revealed that in the category for the performance of educational supervisors, Burton Hospitals ranked top nationally for Foundation Year 1 junior doctors and seventh for Foundation Year 2 doctors.
Ed Briggs, Director of Learning and Education at Burton Hospitals, said: “I’m extremely proud of the education department at Burton Hospitals for the very high-level of training that we provide to our staff. The results of this survey strongly reflect the hard work and commitment of the team to the education of our clinical staff. Our senior doctors have been prepared to put the additional effort in and go the extra mile to provide support for our trainees and the medical education centre staff do an incredible job ensuring that our processes work. Our aim is to be recognised as a national centre of excellence for medical training and to provide the best medical care for patients in our region, thus attracting the highest calibre of trainees and permanent staff, as well as being the patients’ choice of healthcare provision.”

Our educational supervisors are very approachable and knowledgeable people who take their role very seriously and are always looking to improve themselves for the benefit of others. The faculty also has a high number of Provider course instructors, many of whom have educational qualifications which has improved the quality of the training we deliver. We hope this recognition will help put Burton on the map and attract more talented recruits as we continue to invest heavily in our faculty and encourage and support educational qualifications to benefit our staff and ultimately our patients.”
The GMC’s national training surveys monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK. Annually, since 2011, the GMC has run a comprehensive survey asking all doctors in training for their views about the training they are receiving.
