Fundraisers Ian Ritson and his daughter Isabelle, along with other ‘Think Pink’ volunteers, visited the unit after helping to raise over £42k over the 8 years since Ian’s wife Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Staff gave them a tour of the unit and a chance to see what the money from their hard fundraising efforts had bought.
Fundraising was Karen’s idea, and Ian and Isabelle have supported her efforts over the years.
The money was put towards ultrasound equipment and has meant clinics for women and men who have new breast problems can now be seen and treated WCH.
This also includes patients who are being followed up for breast cancer and need breast imaging can have most of it done at WCH.
Some patients who need localisation of lesions before surgery can now be treated here as well.
Ann Cartmell, clinical nurse specialist for Breast Care, said: “We are astounded by the efforts Ian, Isabelle and other ‘Think Pink’ fundraisers have gone to over the years to raise such a huge amount of money. Their efforts have made such a difference to the service that can be provided at WCH.”
