Blood borne virus detection

Our aim at CGL My recovery Tameside is to increase the detection of blood borne viruses in the people who use our services, to reduce the risk of premature death and help them live happier and healthier lives.

In doing so we will support the global programme of eliminating hepatitis C as a major threat to public health.

There are 3 main blood borne viruses (BBVs) Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

HIV and Hepatitis C are listed in the top 5 global causes of death for people who use drugs.

Everyone at risk of getting a blood borne virus has the right to access screening, testing and treatment. Accessing treatment can be challenging for people who use our services, we will help those with a positive test to acquire specialist treatment services.

Dry Blood Spot testing (DBST) is our preferred method of screening. It is a simple means of detecting the presence of BBV infection, with the added advantage of, the test can be completed by anybody

As we are working towards micro-elimination we have organised numerous drop in sessions for our service users to come along and have a DBST carried out.

Our team went above and beyond today showing all our service users just how much they cared, with cake, chocolate, sweets, drinks and little treats for anyone who engaged with the service and if they had a DBST carried out they received a £10 love to shop voucher provided by public health England.
