I have found that being optimistic is the most important, positive and dynamic skill any nurse can have. I work in a team which seemed to always see the negatives, introduce unnecessary hurdles and put obstacles in the way of progress.
I use pictures and diagrams which are displayed around the base room, including Trust Vision, 6 C's and QNI information. When the negative beasties raise their heads the pictures/diagrams around the walls can be pointed out and quickly dissipate the negativity.
It allows any staff member to discuss positively how the service can progress and evolve without having to be quick in verbal response, as those pessimists always seem to be quick tongued.
This has lead to a warmer, more team focussed integrated service.
