Barcoded Flu Vaccination Clinics

Operating flu clinics is going to be challenging this year and practices are looking for creative ways to deliver them.

I would like to share my detailed instructions (attached pdf) on how to reproduce the barcoded clinic process as I believe it solves many of the problems being faced by practices.

The system circumvents the need to book appointments or for the patient to register on arrival.

Patient transit through the clinic is rapid and smooth.

The method has been used successfully over a number of years and works for single practices and groups of practices operating at a single site, so would work well for PCN based clinics.

No IT equipment is required at the vaccination clinic so it is ideal when operating clinics at remote sites.

Using barcodes hugely reduces the time spend on administration as patients are identified by scanning the tickets and flu data is batch added to potentially hundreds of patients at a time. The only expenditure required is approximately £20 for a barcode scanner, and the cost of postage.
