Tracy Earley, Consultant Nurse for Nutrition at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, led the work on a number of safety improvements on improving safety with naso-gastric feeding tubes (NGTs).
This included a chest x-ray e-learning tool which was a collaborative project between the nutrition nursing team, the blended learning team and Dr Robert Stockwell. Tracy was placed second in the category of Nutrition Nurse of the Year in the British Journal of Nursing awards for this strategic work to improve NGT safety at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Nurses play a key part in identifying and addressing the nutritional needs of each patient. Tracy said: “I am absolutely delighted to win runner up for Nutrition Nurse of the Year in the BJN awards this year, on behalf of the whole team. I am really pleased with the improvements that our work has facilitated in improving patient safety, and providing a platform for educating and improving safety for our staff and others too. These projects have been extremely well received and I am thankful to everyone who has been involved. The e-learning tool has now been adopted nationally and provides a critical role to supporting the education of staff in this area.” The British Journal of Nursing awards celebrate excellence in nursing and the individuals who go above and beyond to deliver excellent care for their patients.
