Annual food bank launched to help those in need

As winter approaches, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals launch their annual food bank campaign to help those in need. People within our communities are becoming increasingly reliant on food banks and need them just to get by and feed themselves and their children. A simple box of food and other items can make a big difference to these individuals.

The food bank relies on the generosity and good nature of staff across both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District Hospital.

Carol Marsh, Imaging Assistant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, and Welfare Officer for Unison Central Lancashire is leading the organisation of this food bank alongside colleagues and senior management at the hospitals. Carol said: “During the festive time, we all like to have some form of celebration with our loved ones and I feel this should be extended throughout our community.”

“Last year, staff were extremely generous and we saw a fantastic turn out from staff across our hospitals. I am hoping for the same if not better this year. Both Living Waters in Chorley and the Salvation Army in Preston were completely blown away by the contributions and generosity of all those involved last year.”

Items suitable for donation include dried foods, tinned foods, toiletries, cleaning products, small un-wrapped gifts and baby products.

The final cut-off date for collections will be Friday 30th November to ensure timely deliver to both food banks in time for their Christmas distribution. Collection points are at Charters Restaurant at Preston Hospital and the dining area within Health Academy 3 at Chorley.
