10@10

We had communication issues and low morale on our Postnatal ward at Royal Oldham Hospital (Northern Care Alliance).

Last December I introduced 10@10 off the back of and idea our Lead Midwife had whilst sipping a cocktail on holiday.

10 minutes at 10am and 10pm where staff on the ward re group, enjoy tea and toast, whilst communicating with the Coordinator about patient safety, work loads, issues surrounding flow and equipment.

As 10@10 morphed we utilised the 10 minutes to teach, huddle and celebrate achievements, good practise and congratulate.

As a result:

10@10 increased flow, situational awareness, communication and staff hydration.

This in turn increased patient safety and morale.
The whole team meet including AHP and Medics.

It’s been a cheap, quick win that ultimately benefits both the women we care for and our staff.

Sometimes we go posh !!!
