During NHS Fab change week staff across Ysbty Glan Clwyd at BCUHB are encouraging patients to ‘Get up, get dressed and be active’ as part of the launch for #endpjparalysis Campaign.

Staff are embracing the Campaign by putting on programme of events to get patients up, dressed out of their pyjamas and hospital gowns to increase their daily activity as part of a drive to improve their health and reduce de-conditioning.

Studies have shown that getting patients out of bed when they are physically well enough significantly improved their recovery rate, reducing length of stay and promotes independence. When patients are on the wards we are also encouraging family and friends to help by ensuring each patient has suitable attire and any usual walking aids.

To support patients in getting up and active, staff have organised a programme of activities to raise awareness of the ‘fit to sit’ and ‘endpjparalysis’ Campaign including zimmer frame wacky races and therapy exercises for both patients and relatives to join in.

There will also be a fab-o-meter scoreboard for each ward to input the number of patients who are up and dressed each day to show our progress.
