Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust joined the #FabChangeWeek campaign as part of their frailty development work.

Staff engaged in education and exercise demonstration sessions facilitated by the Frailty Project Lead, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy Staff and our apprentice from the Acute Medical Unit who has a passion for dance and movement.

The sessions promoted the benefits of early mobilisation and prevention of deconditioning which is particularly relevant with frail older people.

The launch slogan on pink t-shirts designed and worn by staff in the clinical area which stated :- ‘Staff wear uniforms patients don’t have to. Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Moving #EndPJParalysis

We completed a pre education/launch audit to look at the number of patients with the frailty bed base who were up and dressed whilst in hospital and this was repeated at the end of the launch with major improvements particular in the acute medical unit and short stay units.

Patients and relatives now have an advice leaflet on admission to help educate the benefits to keeping moving whilst in hospital and to bring in clothes, shoes and walking aids to support this. In addition our Emergency Department is supporting the initiative by means of their own launch #EDFitToSIt to promote early mobilisation at the front door.
