Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust pledge to offer development to our volunteers by enrolling them on our internal Royal Liverpool & Braodgreen Volunteer programme.

As a Trust we believe our volunteers are an asset and are integral to providing a world class experience to our service users.

The RLB Programme was originally designed for nurses; it is an education initiative that aims to further develop registered nurses who are committed to delivering the highest quality of care for the health and well-being of patients.

The programme has recently been extended to Allied Health Professionals and other staff groups and we now intend to offer this to our volunteers following a successful recruitment campaign which resulted in us being able to expand our volunteer service .

The programme will ensure our volunteers have a core set of competencies ranging from safe-guarding, nutrition, patient safety and care and concern. The first cohort will commence November 2017 and will be completed over 9 months.

Our volunteers will be able to choose which role is felt to be best suited to them; there are 7 roles they can chose from – the roles include; Dementia buddies, Discharge buddies, Befrienders etc.

It is an exciting time at the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust as we will move into our new hospital in 2018, our volunteers will play a big part in the new hospital and form part of the new build plan.

The new hospital has been designed with all single rooms and with this in mind and following numerous listening events with patients and service users our volunteers will support our staff to ensure our patients do not feel isolated.

Hopefully the RLB Volunteer programme will demonstrate our commitment to our volunteers, and patients, and make them feel a value part of our Trust.
