In this essence, service improvement is simple: any planned or targeting effort to improve a service and outcomes. In reality it take a little effort and some thought. There is no limit to your ideas: you might consider addressing process outcomes such as patient flow, or perhaps a service improvement that aims to enhance clinical outcomes or even patient experience. Fundamental are a few simple questions…. Where are you now? Where do you want to be? What is the vision? How do you get there? So make a pledge and put it into action. Then ask the question, did you get there? We hope so. Not every change is an improvement but every improvement requires a change. What will you pledge?
